The Land of Sindbad the Sailor

At the down of history, 5000 years ago, Oman took its first steps in history together with the great urban civilization of that era: Egypt, Mesopotamia, and the Indus valley.
Oman has been the most important centre for the production and export of frankincense since ancient time. Dhofar, in the southernmost part of Oman, offers the climatic and soil conditions best suited to the cultivation of the Boswellia sacra tree.

Oman's maritime tradition dates back thousands of years and brought Omani seafarers into contact with the civilisations of Mesopotamia and the Indus Valley. Later Omanis established impressive trading networks with India, China, and East Africa and the countries of Mediterranean.
In 1970, after a long period of isolation, Oman turned a new page with His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said. It has been the beginning of the Oman Renaissance.
